Choosing Snacks

Here are a few of our favorite go-to snacks to pack on a bus for your next road trip or other group outings.

Before you bring snacks, please confirm with us if food is allowed on your bus. Some companies will not allow food onboard, while others may require a deposit.

Now, let’s see some options to fuel up!

Sweet & Savory Trail Mix

Homemade or store-bought, there’s no better combo for healthy fats, protein, and complex carbohydrates than a good trail mix. Skip the chocolate and opt for varieties with salty pretzels, pecans or almonds, and cranberries or raisins for an on-the-road energy booster.

Sliced Fruits and Veggies

Apples, bananas, grapes, carrots, bell peppers—if you can slice it, then you can pack it in your bus’s overhead storage. Just be sure to eat them quickly, as fresh fruit tends to bruise or soften after a couple days.

Pretzel Bites

Salty snacks are a must for any long drive, and pretzel bites will satisfy your craving without leaving your fingers covered in cheese dust! You can buy them pre-packaged or even buy the jumbo size and split it amongst your travel buddies.

Fruit Snacks

The sugar in gummies may be simple, but when it comes to curbing a sugar craving or keeping the kids quiet in the back of your bus, gummies are lifesavers. And with so many varieties available at your local grocery store, everyone in your group is sure to find their perfect flavor!

Dried Fruit

Dried fruit such as dried mangoes, banana chips, and dried cranberries are always good choices because they can last longer than fresh fruit, and they won’t leave you feeling weighed down or queasy. They are a bit high in natural sugar, though, so eat them in moderation!

Animal Crackers and Goldfish

These classic kids’ snacks are tasty and familiar. If your group includes small children or teenagers who like things simple, consider adding these treats to your shopping list.

Pro-tip: even if you’re not traveling with kids, goldfish crackers are pretty addicting for adults too!

String Cheese

The combo of protein and fat you get from dairy makes this snack a real winner. And thanks to the foil wraps, you don’t need to refrigerate them to make sure they don’t get funky.

Popcorn

Want to bring a movie theater experience to your next charter bus? Don’t forget the popcorn! A salty treat that’s high in fiber (and a great source of antioxidants), this classic movie snack can satisfy any craving for something crunchy.

Energy Bars

From chewy Cliff bars and Lara Bars to vegan offerings from companies like KIND and GoMacro, there are so many kinds of energy bars available on the market these days, your group will have no issues finding something that suits everyone’s nutritional needs and taste preferences!

Granola Bars

With honey-flavored granola bars for a sweet tooth and nut-studded energy bars that provide lasting fullness, there is no bad choice when choosing granola for your next road trip. Simply check the sugar count before tossing them in your carry-on bag. For bars with fewer ingredients and lower sugar content, opt for granola from Quaker, Kashi, KIND, or Clif.

Don’t Forget Hydration!

A full cooler stocked with refreshments will save your group tons of time and money. The buses we charter can have ample storage undercarriage, allowing you to pack as much as you need. Consider bringing these top choices for a comfortable, easy road trip with your group.

  • Water bottles: The first and most obvious choice on our list—water. When in doubt, choose water! Having plenty of water in your system will not only help with any nausea symptoms caused by motion sickness or trouble falling asleep on your bus, but will also keep you energized during your next group activity. Skip unnecessary expenses buying overpriced gas station bottles by bringing your own reusable water bottle and a large refillable gallon to keep in your overhead bin. We have the space on board—pack away.
  • Juice boxes: Especially if you’re traveling with young ones, bringing along some juice boxes to give kiddos when they complain about being hungry or thirsty (for the 1000th time that day) will keep meltdowns and emergency sugar drops at bay. Opt for low-sugar, no-pulp options so that mess is minimized and fruit sugars don’t cause hyperactivity.

What Snacks Should I Avoid on a Bus?

Keep in mind that some snack choices can be better for buses than others. Try to keep snacks that include these characteristics off the menu:

  • Messy or sticky foods
  • Strong-smelling foods
  • Foods requiring utensils
  • Perishable items

This should cover all of the common questionable snack options but you can always reach out to a rental expert with more questions.

Packing Suggestions

Now that we’ve established which snacks you can and shouldn’t bring, here’s how to keep everything nice and organized:

  • Use resealable bags or containers for foods.
  • Pack in small portions.
  • Check dietary needs ahead of time and consider food allergies and dietary restrictions like a gluten-free diet and nut allergies.
  • Pack your snacks in your backpack or onboard bags — you cannot access the under bus storage during transit.

Enjoy These Snack Options on Your Next Bus Trip

Basic Features On Most Charter Buses

Here are a few of the features found on almost all charter buses.

Comfortable Seating

Nobody enjoys feeling cramped, stiff, or otherwise uncomfortable while traveling, especially during a long bus ride. With charter bus rentals, though, this isn’t something you have to worry about. Our bus rentals come with comfortable and plush reclining seats—perfect for catching some sleep or getting comfortable for a few hours of snacking as you travel.

On a standard 56-passenger charter bus, you’ll find two seats to a row with aisle space wide enough for most passengers to comfortably move through. Passengers will have an estimated 36 inches of legroom, more than enough room for most adults. You’ll also have access to individual cup holders and foldaway footrests for added convenience. To avoid backaches, many models of charter bus come with reclining seats, allowing passengers to shift their seat backwards for ultimate relaxation (although this will not replace the need to stretch every couple of hours if you’re taking a long trip).

Climate Controls

If you are traveling to or from hotter regions like Orlando, Florida and Las Vegas, Nevada, an air-conditioned charter bus is one of the best ways to get there. Each bus rental comes with a variety of options when it comes to heating and cooling, and the driver or passengers can turn the bus’s climate control up and down. This means everyone on the bus will enjoy their ideal temperature while on the road.

For more customized climate control, most of the modern charter bus and minibus models that Partybus.com offers include individual vents over your seat, meaning you can heat or cool to suit your personal comfort. This is especially convenient for those of us who love chilly AC—that’s right, I’m talking about myself—and those of us who seem to be always, eternally cold, so they won’t have to freeze in a climate-controlled bus on a cold, windy day.

Onboard Restrooms

Traveling a long distance between Dallas and Los Angeles or New York City and Atlanta? There’s nothing worse than sitting with a bursting bladder for several hours on a moving bus.

Most full-size buses come standard with a compact onboard bathroom in the back, making it simple to keep pit stops and breaks to a minimum—meaning your group members can get to their destinations quickly. You’ll generally find a toilet, hand soap and paper towels in these compact restrooms, with larger buses like luxury entertainer motorhomes offering a full restroom experience. But a small bathroom is certainly better than no bathroom, right?

That being said, the typical bus bathroom isn’t exactly large or well-suited for doing anything beyond urgent restroom emergencies.

So as a passenger, we recommend utilizing gas stations or stops to the best of your ability and reserving your bus bathroom for instances where no other bathroom is immediately available.

Charter Bus Entertainment Systems

TV Monitors

One of the most popular ways to spend time on the road is by settling in for a movie. Full-sized charter bus rentals typically include dropdown televisions that drop down from the ceiling above your heads or built-in monitors into the seat’s headrest in front of you. Depending on the model of charter bus you rent, these large television screens may have a DVD player or have direct-streaming capabilities with WiFi.

Kids especially love watching animated films like Cars and Moana during long rides across Florida. In contrast, groups of collegiate athletes might enjoy inspirational sports movies like Space Jam and Rudy before traveling to their next competition in Los Angeles with a team of trusty Partybus.com drivers. Movie selections should match the needs and ages of your travelers.

DVD Players & Audio Systems

While we enjoy our new modern entertainment technologies like streaming and WiFi, who doesn’t enjoy the simple comfort of watching a classic movie on a DVD? Before renting your bus, make sure to double-check with your rental specialist if it includes a DVD player. If you’re renting a corporate bus rental, consider using the DVD player to educate or hype up your crew members with business-oriented documentaries. Alternatively, if your rental does have streaming capabilities, download shows and movies in advance of your drive for quicker service and minimal service interruptions.

Although headphones can minimize extraneous noise, music fans may enjoy utilizing the bus’s audio system to blast a playlist as you journey to your destination.

Public Address (PA) System

You’re not required to talk over a PA system like you’re running for class president. But if your coach comes equipped with this, your bus driver may enjoy the opportunity to make sure everyone on board is accounted for between stops and notify guests if a detour comes along. You can also use the PA system to make team announcements to your sports group or quiz bowl attendees or let younger kids or school classes know about fun upcoming stops and activities in a new city. It’s up to you — you’ll be able to address your entire bus at once!

Stay Connected & Power Up Your Devices

WiFi & Outlets

You can request both WiFi and power outlets — so with a Partybus.com charter bus, the internet is your oyster. If you book a bus with a WiFi hotspot, passengers can catch up on emails or browse social media from the comfort of their seat. Don’t worry about blowing through your personal data if you have a corporate outing or event, long commute for a job, or just need to share pictures from a party.

And since a typical charter bus rental offers multiple outlets for passengers to plug in their mobile devices, you won’t have to fret about anyone losing battery!

Modern charter buses are equipped with multiple power outlets in each seat for individual charging, which is typically a 110v outlet you’ll need a standard plug for. So just sit back and relax as your phone, tablet, and even your laptop are all charged back to 100% with your rental’s personalized and individual electric charging stations. If your personal devices utilize a USB port, rather than a power outlet, our fleet also has buses available with USB charging ports throughout every row of seats for easy, speedy charging to keep you in touch!

Luggage & Storage: Space, space, and more space!

One of the main perks to a charter bus, over other types of rides, is the ample storage space. With both interior compartments above each row of seats and spacious luggage bays located beneath your bus, you have every opportunity to maximize storage.

Overhead Compartments

These storage units, above each passenger’s seats and along the windows, are also called Parcel Racks or just “Overheads”. Like bins on an aircraft, they’re meant for small, easy-to-access items like purses, coats, and anything else you want to store and retrieve quickly while on board. These bins are great for bags around 25 pounds or less.

Overhead bins usually come standard, but minibuses might not have as many compartments due to the size of the vehicle, so you should double check with your reservation agent when booking.

Undercarriage Luggage

Larger compartments are tucked away beneath your bus, in what’s referred to as an “undercarriage.” If your group needs extra storage for large and/or bulky luggage, like your roller bags, golf clubs, team equipment, etc. you can make use of this convenient spot. Just like when boarding a plane, when the charter bus stops, you can step outside to access and unload your larger luggage.

Types of Buses

Need more details about the charter buses and minibuses in Partybus.com’s network? We’ve provided in-depth information on each type of bus below to help you choose the best option for your group trip. And if you still have questions about booking or charter bus pricing, call our team at 877-563-2133. Our expert reservation specialists are here to assist you.

What is a charter bus?

A charter bus (aka a motorcoach) is a large passenger vehicle designed for comfortable group travel. With plush seats and spacious cabins, charter buses are perfect for long-distance trips with many passengers and luggage. Each bus has a driver, so your group doesn’t have to worry about driving or navigating the road.

Seating Capacity. A full-size charter bus can hold anywhere from 40 to 56 passengers, though the most frequently booked models in our network typically accommodate 47, 55, or 56 passengers.

Available Amenities. Nearly every charter bus in the Partybus.com network includes air conditioning and cushioned seats for passengers’ comfort. On some coaches, you can find additional features like WiFi, reclining seats with extra legroom, PA systems, TV monitors, DVD players, and a restroom at the back of the bus. Many of these features are optional and can vary based on the manufacturer, model, and age of your particular charter bus.

Luggage Storage. Charter buses typically have space for at least one piece of checked luggage under the bus in dedicated storage bays. Passengers can store smaller bags and personal belongings in overhead storage compartments above the seats. You can learn more in our charter bus luggage guide.

Best for: Weddings, corporate outings, school events, school field trips, sporting events, religious gatherings, trips 200 miles or more, and more!

Pro Tip: Charter bus parking and loading vary per city, meaning that you can’t take a charter bus to every location, nor can it park everywhere (it is a 45 foot long bus afterall!). So, it’s best to learn from our charter bus parking guide to get more information.

What is a minibus?

A minibus or a minicoach rental is a good transportation solution for small groups that want to avoid a crowded carpool, expensive rideshare rides, and restrictive public transportation schedules. These compact yet comfortable buses are best suited for local travels or short-distance trips. They’re also much more navigable on narrow roads and tighter city streets than full-sized buses, making them perfect for offsite parking shuttles, event shuttle services for weddings, or getting to sporting events.

Seating Capacity. The minibuses in our network accommodate groups of 10 to 35 passengers and the models most frequently rented include the 18-passenger, 20-passenger, and 25-passenger minibuses.

Available Amenities. A minibus rental comes with air conditioning, high back seats, overhead storage bins, a DVD player with a TV screen, a PA system, and possibly onboard WiFi and power outlets depending on the model you choose.

Luggage Storage. Not as much storage as charter buses. Overhead bins are great for holding small personal items, backpacks, or tote bags, but there may not be enough space for every passenger to store a suitcase or larger bag. Certain models can also include under-bus storage bays that are suitable for heavier bags.

Best for: Airport and hotel shuttles, private gatherings, smaller conventions, small sports team events, and corporate travel.

What is a party bus?

These are our company’s specialties! Party buses (often also referred to as limo buses in larger cities), are known for their lounge-style seating, flashing LED lighting, and built-in sound systems. With ample room for dancing and hanging out, this bus model offers a unique transportation experience.

Seating Capacity. Party bus sizes range anywhere from 10 to 50 passengers, though models that comfortably fit 14 passengers, 20 passengers, and 28 passengers tend to be more common than the 40-passenger party buses.

Available Amenities. While every party bus is different, many of the newer models of party buses have upscale interiors for a more luxurious look, including hardwood floors and premium leather seats, bar areas, and Bluetooth/AUX hookups. In addition to these touches, most party buses include club-quality sound systems (bass boost and fiber optic lighting!) and flat-screen TV monitors and DVD players, allowing party-goers to control the tunes for their perfect ride to a concert, a bachelor/bachelorette party, sporting events, or their favorite nightspots.

Luggage Storage. Party buses generally do not have luggage space… On some of the mercedes sprinter limousines, you may have some small trunk space for bags and on some large party buses, you may have overhead compartments or under bus storage. If you’re worried about where you might store purses or bags, you may be able to get a luggage trailer with your rental to carry your items.

Best for: birthday bashes, weddings, bachelor/ette parties, wine tours, concert transportation, nights on the town with friends or coworkers.

What is a tour bus?

Tour buses, sometimes known as entertainer coaches, are most often used for multi-day travel—such as musical artists and bands on the road or production crews who travel frequently between film set locations. These massive coaches can be customized to best accommodate your group’s lifestyle on the road, from lavish and modern spaces for work or leisure to custom bunks and bedrooms for sleeping.

Seating Capacity. Seating space in tour buses is minimal, as many features that take up seats in other vehicles are converted into additional, personalized spaces. On average, most tour bus models accommodate 8 to 12 people on bunk-style sleeping arrangements.

Available Amenities. These motorcoaches have a long roster of features not commonly found in standard charter bus rentals. Enjoy a private lounge area, a master suite bedroom, onboard restrooms, a fully-stocked kitchen and a personal chef, free WiFi and a premium sound system, flat-screen TVs with satellite or cable access, custom lighting for relaxing nights on the road, a luxurious exterior wrap, and so much more.

Luggage Storage. For large quantities of gear or instruments, you can even reserve a trailer hitch so your equipment or luggage can travel behind your entertainer coach in a designated, secure cargo trailer. Inside, guests have designated storage space overhead for smaller items, plus personal cubbies beneath bunks for additional luggage, accessories, or souvenirs.

Best for: band and music tours, production crews, actors on the road between film locations, concerts and music festivals.

Charter Bus Prices: How to Calculate Your Bus Rental Costs

Planning a group trip can be fun—but you know what’s not so fun? Figuring out your budget. Especially when it comes to transportation, costs can quickly spiral out of control, especially if you aren’t familiar with what factors affect pricing. That’s why the Partybus.com team has put together this guide: to walk through how we figure out the cost of every bus rental quote, and to ensure you’re equipped to budget for your group’s next trip. Or you can always call us at 877-563-2133 for a quote within minutes!

**Here are some estimated rates to help you start planning your budget. Actual pricing can vary signifcantly.

The 56-passenger charter bus ranges from $200 to $400 per hour, $2,300 to $4,200 per day, and $4.00 to $4.95 per mile. For smaller groups, the 35-passenger minibus offers rates between $185 and $360 hourly, $2,200 to $3,500 daily, and $4.30 to $5.15 per mile. The 20 to 25-passenger minibuses in our network are generally priced at $170 to $355 per hour, $2,100 to $3,400 per day, and $4.25 to $5.15 per mile. The smallest option is the 18-passenger minibus, which runs from $165 to $350 hourly, $2,000 to $3,000 daily, and $3.90 to $4.90 per mile.

How Do We Calculate the Price of Your Charter Bus?

In a word? It’s complicated! No two trips are exactly alike, so no two quotes will be exactly alike either. We build each and every Partybus.com rental quote from scratch, taking into account every detail that can affect the final cost—from the type of bus you need to the distance you’ll be traveling, from what time of year you’re on the road to the city where your pick-up point is located. That means you’ll only ever pay for a bus rental that truly suits your needs. Call us at 877-563-2133 to receive a free quote—with no obligation to book—or simply keep reading to learn more about what factors may affect your charter bus rental pricing.

Where You’re Headed

First things first: how many miles are on the road ahead? This is one of the biggest things we look at when we determine your bus rental cost. If your group is traveling 500 miles, your bus will need to use a lot more fuel than if your group is traveling 50, right? It makes sense that you’d pay more for your bus to cover the longer distance—so be prepared to share your destination when you call for a quote. If you can, provide us with the addresses of each stop you plan to make so you aren’t charged extra for unplanned detours later on.

How Long You Need The Bus

Most charter bus rentals are charged by day or by hour. If you’re traveling to a local event like a baseball game or a museum tour, your bus rental company will likely quote you an hourly rate for the day. On average, companies have a five-hour minimum for hourly rentals—but we can generally work around this to find you a package that you need.

If you’re traveling out of state, attending a multi-day festival, or need your bus rental for longer than 10 hours, your rep will likely give you a price based on a day rate. We’ll also let you know if you’ll need to cover your driver’s lodging (since they’re not included in the initial quote) for overnight trips. Your bus driver will need at least 8 hours of rest for every 10 hours they drive, so if you’re planning a long-distance trip, it’s important to make sure everyone’s needs are met before you hit the road!

When You’re Traveling

Believe it or not, bus rentals have peak seasons, just like plane tickets do! That means your trip could be more expensive if you’re traveling during the months when the most people are booking—usually in spring and summer, when there are more graduations, wedding celebrations, and family vacations to coordinate. On average, the least expensive time to rent a bus is in the winter, especially in January and February.

Your Pickup City

Some areas of the U.S. don’t have as many bus rental providers as others—which can lead to a higher demand and less competition between companies. For example, because many New England states have lots of narrow, winding roads, you may find it’s more expensive to book a charter bus in Boston than it is in Los Angeles, where the streets are generally wider and more accommodating for larger vehicles.

If your group is being picked up in a city that isn’t the same one where your bus rental company is located, you’ll need to factor in an additional expense for “deadhead.” Deadhead refers to the distance your bus must travel before it arrives at your group’s pickup location—so if your group is getting picked up in New York City, but your bus is leaving from Philadelphia, you’ll need to pay for the miles your bus drives from Philly to NYC.

The Bus You Select

Minibuses and motorcoaches come in various sizes, and with these varying sizes come different hourly and daily rates. For a small- to mid-sized group of under 35 people, a minibus would be the better choice and may even come with a lower overall cost.

The bus model and its specific features will also impact your rental price. Our network includes a variety of motorcoaches from popular bus manufacturers like Temsa, Prevost, Van Hool, Setra, MCI, and more. All buses have the standard comfort features: cushioned and reclining seats, air-conditioning and heating systems, a PA system, overhead luggage storage and more. But when it comes to luxurious features, minibuses will not have as many as their bigger counterparts.

Full-sized motorcoaches, such as a 56-passenger bus, can be outfitted with an on-board restroom, additional luggage storage beneath the bus, and other premium features. And as with any luxury, you’ll pay extra for more features. So if you’re going on a long trip across Texas or taking your friends on a weekend to visit California wine country, be sure to factor in how much those extras will cost.

The Amenities You Select

Amenities like air conditioning and cushioned seating come standard on most motorcoaches, both minibuses and charter buses alike. But if you need something a little extra—TV screens and a DVD player, WiFi connectivity, reclining seats, a PA system, and more—you’ll need to request them from your reservation rep. Just ask what’s available when you go to book, and we’ll see if your bus can be fitted with them for an additional cost.

Don’t forget about your driver! In addition to the cost of your charter bus or minibus rental, you’ll also need to cover your bus driver’s time and travel expenses. These expenses can include their time behind the wheel (usually a minimum of 5 hours per day), overnight lodging for multi-day trips, and a gratuity—which is not included in your initial quote, but usually between 10-20% of the cost of the bus.

Tips for Keeping Costs Down

Here’s some easy advice for budgeting:

  1. Choose the right bus. Fit your passenger count with the bus you select to minimize the costs!
  2. Book your bus early. Like airline tickets, bus rental prices fluctuate based on the time of year and the level of demand. The more people are booking buses, the higher the prices will go. If you book your bus at least 6 months in advance—especially if your trip is during the spring or summer—you’ll have a better chance of getting the right bus at the right price. If you wait until a week or two before your trip, there’s a greater chance that all the buses that are a good fit for your group will already be booked. You may have to settle for something smaller or more expensive (or both!).
  3. Have an accurate itinerary. The more mileage your bus has to travel, the more you’ll pay for your rental. But you’ll also pay more if your bus has to travel a long distance to reach your pickup location. Try to keep your pickup and dropoff points as close as possible to the city where your bus is stationed. Alternatively, if you’re planning a road trip, try to begin and end your trip in the same city as the bus company’s headquarters. This will minimize deadhead costs and help you secure a lower price!
  4. Contact your hotels, stadiums, and event venues for bus parking info before you book. Parking a charter bus in a big city isn’t always easy, especially in locations with limited parking or in historical districts. Contact the venues on your itinerary ahead of time, and ask where your bus can park. If you’re staying at a hotel, ask the booking agent about bus parking and overnight parking for oversized vehicles.
  5. Consider room discounts for drivers. When you call to make group hotel reservations, ask about discounted or free rooms for bus drivers. Most hotels will offer this perk for drivers as long as you’ve booked a block of rooms.

Their reservation expert recommended that they book a 28-passenger minibus on a regular contract to pick everyone up near their housing complex.

Where to go in New York

When you’re ready to hit the road, your first step is to figure out where you want to go! New York state has a lot to offer travelers, so if you’re overwhelmed by options, we recommend checking out the official I LOVE NY website for regional guides and articles to help narrow down your choices. Or, if you prefer, Partybus.com can help you there too. We’ve put together a list of day trip locations that are ideal for groups traveling by private charter bus or minibus rental:

Bear Mountain State Park

Distance from NYC: 1 hour 15 minutes or ~50 miles

Address: 3006 Seven Lakes Dr, Bear Mountain, NY 10911

Located right on the west bank of the Hudson River, Bear Mountain State Park is the perfect day trip destination for NYC groups that need a breath of fresh air. From gentle hikes through the Appalachian foothills, to lakeside picnics with scenic views, to ice skating in the wintertime, and a merry-go-round, there’s an activity here for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and ability levels. The park also has a Trailside Museums and Zoo—ideal for a school group outing that blends nature and education.

Lake Placid

Distance from NYC: 5 hours or ~300 miles

Address: 2634 Main St, Lake Placid, NY 12946

Calling all snowboarders! Home to the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics, this small town is a favorite for cold-weather sports—from ice hockey to bobsleighing and speed skating. You can even tour the Olympic Center to learn more about the history of the events held here, or visit the Olympic Museum’s exhibits of athletes’ gear and uniforms throughout the decades.

Not visiting during the winter? No problem. Lake Placid is still surrounded by beautiful mountainscapes and lakes, so hiking, swimming, and boating are still great options here. Plus, your private charter bus rental offers the perfect opportunity to turn a day trip into an overnight getaway. Just remember that if you’re spending the night, you’ll need to provide accommodations (like a hotel room) for your driver. And if you need help learning what fits on your bus, check out our charter bus packing guide!

Niagara Falls

Distance from NYC: 6 hours and 40 minutes or ~400 miles

Address: 305 Buffalo Ave, Niagara Falls, NY 14303

Looking for the perfect way to celebrate with your bachelor or bachelorette party? Or a trip for your nature-loving senior community? Visiting one of the world’s most incredible natural wonders with a group is bound to be a memorable experience! Although the US side of the falls is smaller than its Canadian counterpart, it’s still an impressive sight to see and offers many fun activities. Catch a boat tour beneath the Horseshoe Falls (though be warned: you will get soaked!), learn about the history and geology of the falls at the Niagara Gorge Discovery Center, hike the trails of Whirlpool State Park, and take a walk along the illuminated Rainbow Bridge at sunset.

Charter bus travel tip: The best time of year to visit Niagara Falls is during autumn when the weather is still mild but the crowds are thin. If you visit in the summer, you may have to park your bus in a lot further away and walk several blocks to the falls. There’s no parking on Goat Island during any time of year, but buses can pick up and drop off right in front of the Welcome Center.

Cooperstown, NY

Distance from NYC: 3.5 hours or ~180 miles

Address: 12 Main St, Cooperstown, NY 13326

Baseball lovers will find themselves in heaven while in Cooperstown, aka the Birthplace of Baseball. The tiny town of only 2,000 residents welcomes thousands of visitors every year, who come to explore the history of the sport at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, the Farmer’s Museum, and the Fenimore Art Museum. There’s plenty to do here if you have a full day to kill, but if your group wants to stretch their legs, take a walk along Lake Otsego or the scenic trails in Glimmerglass State Park.

Finger Lakes Region

Distance from NYC: 4 hours or ~250 miles

The Finger Lakes region is home to 11 lakes—as the name suggests—and more than 100 wineries that create an experience many people compare to the Napa Valley in California. Book a bus rental for a multi-day tour through the region or settle for a day of wine tastings at the wineries near Seneca Lake, the area’s largest lake.

Your charter bus driver can act as your DD for the day, and your group can take advantage of your coach’s storage space to stock up on their favorite bottles of Chardonnay, Riesling, and Pinot Noir. The roads through this region are easy for motorcoaches to navigate, and you’ll have no shortage of gorgeous scenery. Just let your Partybus.com representative know where you’d like to be dropped off, and they’ll handle the rest.

The Catskills

Distance from NYC: 2 hours or ~100 miles

Escape from the city and hop on your charter bus to the beautiful Catskill Mountains. If you’re visiting during the fall, you’re sure to see New England’s iconic, gorgeous autumn foliage. If you’re visiting in the winter, you’ll find ski slopes and resorts aplenty to keep your winter sports fanatics happy.

Many people come to the Catskills for a weekend wedding celebration or corporate retreat and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. There are dozens of small towns throughout the region, with locally owned restaurants, boutiques, breweries, and more to explore. You can also plan a field trip to the area’s museums, like the Thomas Cole National Historic Site or the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum.

Fire Island

Distance from NYC: 2 hours by bus and ferry

No cars are allowed on Fire Island, so you’ll need to take a ferry to reach this gorgeous barrier island. The Best Day Trips across California

California is home to some of the most beautiful and exciting tourist destinations and cities in the United States. From the stretches of Pacific coastline to amazing downtowns and amusement parks, the Golden State has a little something for everyone. But why limit your visit to just one place? Partybus.com is here to help you plan the ultimate California day trip to experience more of what this state has to offer.

If you’re traveling with a large group, you’ll want to book private transportation like a charter bus rental to make the journey comfortable and convenient. We’ll pair you with a driver to handle the navigation, and your bus will be equipped with air-conditioning and other amenities to make the ride fun.

Now let’s see where to go!

Where to go in California

California is so massive and diverse that picking a day trip destination can seem like a daunting task. So to help you narrow things down, consider these travel tips:

Choose a destination that appeals to all of your travelers. For example, if you have children in your group, then theme parks like Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood may be great choices. Groups of history and architecture enthusiasts may find themselves more drawn to San Francisco’s historic districts and museums.

Choose a destination that isn’t too far from your departure location. California is famous for long distances and tedious traffic. If you want to see Disneyland but are in San Francisco, you’ll have to drive for more than 6 hours to get there ( if you need some tips for a comfortable ride — remember to stretch every 2 or 3 hours and pack along some bus games!).

Take advantage of California’s beautiful scenery with a scenic drive. Drive through the redwoods of Humboldt County if you’re heading up north, or enjoy the coastal views of Big Sur if you’re on the central coast. The desertscapes and mountains of Southern California offer their own unique charm.

Hearst Castle

Address: 750 Hearst Castle Rd, San Simeon, CA 93452

Created for newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst by architect Julia Morgan, Hearst Castle was nearly 30 years in the making—construction took place between 1919 and 1947. When you book the Grand Rooms Tour or the Accessibility Designed Grand Rooms Tour, a guide will bring you through the main building, called the Casa Grande, where you can see the Assembly Room, Refectory, Morning Room, Billiard Room, and Theater.

If everyone in your group is physically capable of climbing multiple flights of stairs, consider taking the Upstairs Suites Tour. This tour will bring you through the living quarters of Hearst, his family, and his guests. Here you’ll get to experience Hearst’s Gothic Suite, the Celestial Suite, the Library, and the indoor and outdoor swimming pools.

Palm Springs

Address: Palm Springs Visitors Center, 2901 N Palm Canyon Dr, Palm Springs, CA 92262

This Southern California desert oasis was a popular respite for Hollywood legends throughout the 1940s, ‘50s, and ‘60s. Nowadays, the city attracts those in need of a quick sunny escape, golf enthusiasts, and visitors interested in mid-century Modern architecture.

Palm Springs is full of things to do for groups of every type. Enjoy a laid-back hike with the kids in the Indian Canyons, treat your company colleagues to a round of golf at the Indian Canyons Golf Resort, or take a group tour of the Palm Springs Air Museum. You can even take a ride on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway and take in the mountaintop views.

Santa Catalina Island

Address: Catalina Express Terminal, 320 Golden Shore, Long Beach, CA 90802

Catalina Island, also called Santa Catalina Island, lies 22 miles off the coast of Southern California. Although it’s only 76 square miles in size, this getaway island is home to some of California’s most scenic trails, beaches, and wildlife. Most folks arrive by ferry from Long Beach to the city of Avalon, which features historic architecture, dining, and a variety of shops selling souvenirs.

For thrill-seeking groups, rent a four-person golf cart or bicycle, and zip around Avalon for the day. Spend your time exploring the Catalina Casino—a beautiful art deco structure built in the 1920s—or sunbathing at Descanso Beach. Catalina Island is also a fantastic place to go scuba diving or snorkeling. For a more in-depth look at the island’s marine wildlife, plan a visit to the Catalina Island Marine Institute.

Malibu Wines & Beer Garden

If your group is a big fan of wine tastings, consider an outing to Malibu Wines! Located in the Saddle Rock Ranch, Malibu Wines is the perfect outdoor destination for your group to enjoy some wine and sunshine.

The ranch is home to several movie sets and also offers a variety of activities, including horseback riding, wildlife tours, and hiking trails. Enjoy a glass of the vineyard’s signature Saddlerock wine while taking in the views of the Santa Monica Mountains. You can even order gourmet pizza and sandwiches from the ranch’s wood-fired oven while you sip.

San Diego Zoo Safari Park

Address: 15500 San Pasqual Valley Road, Escondido, CA 92027

The San Diego Zoo Safari Park is located a short drive north of the city in Escondido and offers a unique animal experience. This zoo is built like an African Safari, with animals from various regions freely roaming across a 1,800-acre landscape. For your trip to the park, book a 35-minute open-air tram tour or enjoy a safari-style experience in a truck with a chance to hand-feed giraffes.

Groups with a taste for adventure can book a thrilling zip-line tour over the animal enclosures, soar above the park in a simulated hot air balloon ride, or even take a walk along a rope bridge swinging 65-feet in the air! While Florida’s Gulf Coast may be more popular among beach-loving tourists, Alabama’s stretch of the Gulf Coast offers a laid-back alternative for a day at the beach. The most well-known cities along this part of Alabama are Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Both cities have perfect beaches, family-friendly water parks, and a variety of seafood restaurants.

For a quiet, leisurely stroll along the Gulf of Mexico, Gulf State Park Pier in Gulf Shores is the place to be. You can enjoy the views from the pier or head to the beach to swim, sunbathe, or fish. You can also plan a day of watching sea turtles on the shores or maybe you’d prefer to kayak, paddleboard, or try to spot dolphins. In Gulf Shores, locals adore The Hangout for its casual beachfront atmosphere and its menu of gulf shrimp, oysters, and fish. If you’re traveling in a bigger group, you’ll want to make reservations at Lulu’s Gulf Shores for its massive, multi-tiered patio and its tasty selection of shrimp tacos, hush puppies, and more.
